Artist Story: Paul Roberts

At the age of ten, I took the art test that was showed on television all the time, “ do you like to draw”  and from the results, I knew that being an artist was my calling.  I continued to push for perfection, getting my drawings into school art contest, actually placing in the top 5 and winning prizes made my young heart feel good. As time went on, I got better, and even gave thought about going to college and studying more.   2002, I entered the College of the Arts at the University of Louisiana.  As I struggled and fought with the tedious projects, I became an apprentice as a tattoo artist.

Full time tattoo artist and art student kept me extremely busy.  Getting good grades and my professor’s respect, and creating timeless tattoos on customers day after day was the exact path I wanted to take.  Truly a blessing to be able to juggle the two without failing.  Finally I graduated in 2006, focusing on tattooing and painting, wanting to paint and enter artshows, contest, and commission work as well, and entering tattoos at conventions to get known as a great tattoo artist keeps me busy everyday.

My artwork comes from the depth of my soul.  Within each series, I have a slight obsession with the subject.  In order to fulfill the need, I must create a genre’ of work so that I can better understand the meaning.  Life and Death always play important characters in my stories.  Each work of art whether simple or complex has a deep impact on the non-fiction that lies beneath  them.  One must stare and think deeply as the eyes of the viewer look into the mirror of my work.  My work is a reflection of all who seeks truth, but it also reminds us of the unknown after we move forward beyond living.  A higher power has created a plan for everything, we just haven’t realized it, or we have and are afraid.
