Artist Story: Ranjan Purkayastha
I learned my paintings & drawings for 5 yrs under Sunil Madhav Sen who is considered as the father of modern art in India. Besides diploma in fine arts, I completed my graduation in humanities from Calcutta University and did my specialization course on Advertising management from London Chamber of Commerce. During my college days I got involved in Art Movement in Calcutta called ‘Dynamic Art Movement’ in seventies. I am founder member and treasurer of a leading art organization of Kolkata, called ‘Mukta Shilpa’. Mukta Shilpa means Freedom of Art. Mukta Shilpa has been organizing various Art Workshops and Exhibitions in Kolkata and we raise funds for charity work. Recently I am working towards publishing my first book on drawings named ‘Point of Origin’ R
About my Art
I do Pen and Ink Drawings on Paper. I always felt a wrong stroke can spoil the logic of a drawing and no manipulation can rectify that as it can be done in painting. I love this challenge and I do experimental & unconventional drawings. I call it Alternative Drawings.
