Artist Story: Ron EA Powell      (REAP13)

REAP (Ron EA Powell) was born in Newark, New Jersey, 1976. Powell grew up in Irvington, attending private parochial schools. Of Jamaican heritage, Powell has visited this source of culture and family ties on several occasions, lending a Caribbean influence to his work. He majored in Fine Arts at New Jersey City University. Powell has also studied figure drawing at The Art Student League of New York, New York City, N.Y. and now currently works at Tiffany & Co., as a Graphic Designer.

Ron shares the following:

My full name is Ron Edward Arthur Powell. My parents came from a family of farmers in Jamaica and found it fitting to give the initials from the proverb, ‘As ye reap so shall ye sow.’ I am proud to have these initials represent my heritage, my art, and my strides in life. I feel the strong and bold uses of color from the Jamaican culture reflect through my paintings, and living in New Jersey has aided in molding my subject matter and compositions.

REAP is undaunted in working with large or small works, thus striking every drawing / painting with great conviction. Intense attention to detail, he creates a rhythm and composition in his work that is engaging, spiritual, and thought provoking.

With his dedication, REAP strives to give Art new meaning.
